Monttrek is one of the pioneers in trekking and climbing in Huaraz with more
than 20 years experience. This professional adventure company can organise
ascents to many of the nearby peaks, including ice and rock climbing. Monttrek
also offer many mid-priced group treks, mountain biking, horseback riding, river
rafting and equipment rental. A good starting point for serious climbers.

Run by Selio Villon, high mountain guide, who founded the Mountain Guide
Association of Peru and the Casa de Guias in Huaraz. English, French and German
spoken. Trekking, climbing, mountain biking and equipment rental. Offer a
variety of circuits from 3 to 25 days. The office is just next door to the Casa
de Guias. Selio is obviously an excellent source of information if you are
planning a trek or climbing expedition.

The Casa de Guias is the home of the Mountain Guide Association of Peru. They
keep a list of internationally certified guides in Huaraz. Most of these guides
charge around US$100 per day for their services. You can also find a list of
guides-in-training who charge a little less and are more suitable for less
technical routes and treks.

Mountain Bike Adventures is owned and
run by local man Julio Olaza. Julio knows the area better than nearly anyone and
is mainly responsible for pioneering the sport in the region. He speaks good
English and understands well what is required to operate a good mountain-biking
operation. Mountain Bike Adventures is a well established company that has been
running successful tours since the early 90's. The company is recommended in
Lonely Planet Peru guide book and highly recommended by South American Handbook.
MBA also has lodging in the central part of town, storage facilities and offer Spanish lessons for
travellers.

Pony's Expeditions is located in the town of
Caraz, about 67 km north of Huaraz. At an altitude almost 1,000m lower than
Huaraz, this pleasant, less touristy town enjoys a lush warm atmosphere and is
known by the locals as 'sweet Caraz'. Run by outdoor enthusiast Alberto Cafferata,
Pony's Expeditions specializes in customized adventure sports such as trekking,
mountain biking, rock and ice climbing and fishing in the Cordilleras Blanca, Negra and
Huayhuash and Cusco area. Alberto speaks good English and reasonable French and is
incredibly knowledgeable and helpful if you require information when planning a
trip to the area.
